Parking in Residential Areas

How we prioritise requests for parking solutions?

The Council has adopted assessment criteria for prioritising requests for additional parking facilities in residential roads. This criteria has been applied to 375 roads that have been identified to the Council as having a parking problem. The full list can be viewed

What has been done to address parking issues?

During 2006 the Council implemented numerous minor white lining schemes in various residential roads across the Borough. These were aimed at formalising parking arrangements thereby maximising the number of available spaces on-street.

The Council also implemented three pilot projects where additional parking facilities were provided. These were at:

    Holst Close, Brighton Hill;
    Bow Drive, Sherfield on Loddon; and
    Stukeley Road, Basingstoke

The next batch of roads has been investigated and schemes to address parking issues at the following locations have recently been (or are about to be) implemented:

    Burnham Road, Tadley
    Daniel Road, Whitchurch
    Gainsborough Road, Black Dam
    Stephens Road, Tadley
    Winchcombe Road, Basingstoke

What else is the Council planning to do?

The Council has allocated funding of £325,000 (in 2009/10) for the provision of further parking solutions in residential areas and has begun investigating parking problems at the following roads:

    Halliday Close, Basingstoke
    Harlech Close, Winklebury
    Paddock Road, South Ham
    Pembroke Road, Winklebury
    Porter Road, Brighton Hill

Parking problems at each of these roads will be investigated using the methodology adopted for the pilot projects. The County Council (the Highway Authority), local housing associations and residents will be invited to contribute to any proposed solution.
