Maintenance of street lighting
Southern Electric Contracting are the County Council’s contractor responsible for the maintenance of more than 145,000 street lights and illuminated signs throughout Hampshire. They also maintain some street lighting for the Borough Council that is not on the public highway.
To report a fault
Faults should be reported via: www.lightsoninhampshire.co.uk
Prior to reporting the fault, please check the defective streetlight for its reference number. This is usually fixed to the column 5 to 6 feet above ground. Also find out the road name in which the streetlight is situated. (If the street light has a series of alpha/numeric characters beneath the number itself then please also use these when reporting the fault).
New street lighting
The Borough Council makes funding available for the provision of additional street lighting up to the value of £10,000. Assessment criteria have been adopted for prioritising requests for new street lighting. This places an emphasis on the need to address locations where there are known crime problems or a perception of crime.
Each new request received is investigated and assessed using the approved criteria; and as appropriate added to the rolling programme for implementation as funding becomes available.
Details of schemes which exceed £10,000 in value are passed to Hampshire County Council for consideration as part of their street lighting maintenance programme.
