Assistance for disabled persons with vehicular dropped kerbs
The Borough Council offers assistance for the provision of vehicle accesses for disabled or elderly persons. For disabled persons who are in possession of a valid blue disabled badge and are in receipt of income support or pensions credit, the Council will usually fully fund the cost of providing or modifying a vehicle access. This would covers all alterations to the highway kerb, footway and verge, but not the provision or modification of a hard standing within the property.
Where a disabled person holds a blue disabled badge but is not in receipt of income support or pensions credit, the Council will usually contribute up to 50% of the cost of providing a vehicle access; whereas people over the age of 65 may be eligible for a contribution of up to 33%.
The contributions made by the Council are separate from the Disabled Facilities Grant which provides funding for the adaption of homes to meet the needs of an occupant with a disability and could include the provision of a hard standing and vehicle access.
