Shape the future of South View

Consultation on options for the future of the council-owned land at the former allotments site and Vyne Road car park

What is happening?

Map showing the area which we are consulting on about options for future use.An area to the north of Basingstoke railway station has been identified for future development.
Last year the council put forward an idea for developing the whole site (area shown outlined by blue line on image) and consulted the local community.

At the time, we were proposing a mix of houses and flats over the whole site which includes land owned by Network Rail and others as well as council owned land at the former allotments near Lyford Green and Vyne Road car park (areas outlined in red on the image)

Two exhibitions were held in March and April last year at the Vyne Community School to offer local residents the opportunity to comment on our initial ideas. We listened to the local community who were concerned about the impact of development in their area. As a result the council has decided to take a step back and look at various options for the future of the land it owns (outlined in red).

Future options for land

The council held a further consultation in February and March 2010.  This was to seek your views on different options for land the council owns on the former allotments site near Lyford Green and the Vyne Road car park.

These options are summarised in the South View Options leaflet below.

In addition, the council has undertaken a ‘Strategic Overview’ of the impacts of development on local facilities and infrastructure (see document below).

A summary of the results of this consultation exercise is set out in the document below.  A recommendation on the way forward for these two sites will be reported to a meeting of the council Committee in June/July 2010.
