Voluntary and community sector grants
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council provides grants, funding and a range of support services to various voluntary and community sector organisations (VCSOs) to improve the general wellbeing of local residents.
We believe that VCSOs have the skills and abilities to provide locally needed services in an effective and efficient manner, providing maximum value for local residents. Additional benefits of building social capital or engaging people with their own communities through volunteering simply reinforces the importance of this approach.
Borough council grants/funding schemes
The council operates many different grant schemes to support its local communities and help achieve its priorities. Each scheme has different aims and criteria and the following links provide further information:
Community and Voluntary Sector grant funding
Grant funding is an important way for the council to acknowledge and support the contribution made by Community and Voluntary sector organisations (VCSOs) make to the borough of Basingstoke and Deane. Funding needs to be allocated carefully, fairly and equitably so that it has the most impact and gets the best outcomes.
On 1 April 2015 the way in which the council funds many community and voluntary sector organisations changed.
The grant schemes below were unaffected by the changes:
- Community Heritage and Environment Fund grants
- Leisure Grants and Have Your Say community grants
- Housing grants
- Community grants
Under the new scheme there are two types of grant funding available; grant funded programmes and strategic grants. Most organisations are only eligible to apply for grant funded programmes.
In November 2014, community and voluntary sector organisations were encouraged to apply for funding to deliver programmes of work between April 2015 for a period of up to three years and five years for strategic grants.
The application process for 2015/16 closed in December 2014 with 32 out of the 41 organisations who applied for programme grant funding being successful. 11 organisations were approved for strategic grant funding.
Information about applying for funding for the 2016/17 financial year will be posted on this page in due course.
The application form, the guidance for applicants and a budget template for the 2015/16 scheme can be found here, these are for information only and are subject to change.
The guidance for applicants also gives details of the council’s strategic grant funding.
