To help you find the service you need we have provided search and index facilities and a page listing the many ways that you can contact us. These are explained in a little more detail below.
what is ... A-Z Index?
Our A-Z Index lists all of the pages of our website, categorized alphabetically, with pages appearing in the listing under as many alternative names as we feel are required to help you find the information that you need.
e.g. 'Community Safety' is also listed under 'S' as 'Safety (Community)'
The A-Z Index also doubles as a handy contact directory. Beside each entry is the name of the group that is responsible for the page and, if the group has email, this will link to a contact form allowing you to send a message from the website.
What is ... Find An Answer ?
Find An Answer is a search tool, where answers to our most frequently asked questions can be found. It does not search our website pages. Instead it searches a database of questions that we are commonly asked, and the answers that we give. Sometimes this will answer your question more easily that finding the relevant page on our website and reading the entire text.
If you want a quick answer to a common question then use this tool first. If your question is not answered then search the wider site from our search page.
what is ... Search?
When using the search, please use only a few keywords and make them as relevant as possible. In particular, please do not use full english queries such as 'Where can I recycle glass bottles?' as this contains many words which will not be identified as keywords and hence will not return many page matches. Instead use a simpler search such as 'recycle glass bottles'.
A good trick when searching is to use incomplete words to cover multiple endings. If you wanted to match any of 'recycle', 'recyclable' and 'recycling' you could search for 'recyc' and it will match all of these.
what are ... Access Keys?
Access Keys are a step towards more accessible web pages. Although these are only supported by some web browsers (generally the more recent versions) they allow improved access to common website facilities such as the home page, search and help.
They are accessed by holding the Alt key on Windows systems, or the Ctrl key on Macintoshes, and pressing the relevant access key.
Our website conforms to UK Local Government guidelines which means that the AccessKeys you are used to using for UK Government agencies will work similarly on this website.
