The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr David Leeks will be leading the Armed Forces Day celebrations and flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Offices on Monday 19 June 2023 at 10am.

All service personnel (cadets, those currently serving and veterans) and members of the public are welcome to attend this year’s Armed Forces Day in the town, organised by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in partnership with Basingstoke and Overton Royal British Legion.

The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised by a cadet from 443 (Basingstoke Squadron), followed by a Drumhead service by Old Basing Corps of Drums for their new military side drums, where they will be blessed.

Originating in the 1700’s, a Drumhead service is a traditional Army service, representing a number of different Christian Churches, held in the field in which the Regimental drums are placed on top of each other to form an altar.
