Basingstoke breastfeeding welcome scheme

What is the scheme?

Basingstoke breastfeeding welcome scheme enables mothers to breastfeed easily and comfortably throughout the borough of Basingstoke and Deane. Local businesses participating will display a Breastfeeding Welcome sticker - showing mums they are welcome to breastfeed on the premises.

The Equality Act 2010 has clarified that it is unlawful for a business to discriminate against a women because she is breastfeeding a child. Discriminating against someone because they are with a breastfeeding mother is also prohibited.

How can I join?

Businesses signing up to the campaign will be asked to meet set criteria and support will be provided to help achieve this. A welcome pack, including promotional materials to inform breastfeeding mothers they are part of the scheme, will be issued. Each business will also be added to a list of participating premises on our website and will be promoted via leaflets, posters, health professionals and children’s centres.
