Environmental Improvements at Chopin Road and Stanford Road, Brighton Hill areas

As part of the Environmental Renewal Scheme (ERS), we aim to enhance communal areas and open spaces within the local neighbourhood around Chopin Road and Stanford Road at Brighton Hill.

We consulted with residents in August and September to seek views on the areas, so that we can focus on the issues that matter the most when we finalise our programme of improvement works. Thank you to those who responded.

Having reviewed the comments, we are now planning to deliver the following works in the 2024/2025 financial year:

  • Approximately 100m long bulb planting at Brighton Way, opposite to Brighton Hill Community School, approaching ASDA superstore.
  • Tree coppicing and tidying up on both sides of the underpass at Brighton Way, behind Lehar Close and Headington Close. Please note that the underpass will be closed for a few days during the works.
  • Replanting at the large bed next to Brighton Hill Community School.
  • Reducing hedge planting at the road verge at the Quilter Road / Brighton Way junction.
  • New picnic benches, seats and litter bins will be implemented at the open space outside Hatch Warren Schools. There will be also some minor vegetation clearance.
  • New picnic benches, litter bins, signages and hard surface repairing at Brighton Hill Park.
  • Removing the raised bed outside 138 and 172 Quilter Road.
  • A new bench at the footpath adjacent to Stanford Road / Brighton Way.
  • Vegetation tidying up and turfing near 21 Brahms Road.

Residents who might be affected with these works will receive notification letters separately in due course, together with the detailed plans.

We are also reviewing the design of the public square next to Quilter Road / Brighton Way junction, with works likely to be implemented in the 2025/2026 financial year.

We acknowledge the requests on vegetation cutting in the area. These have been passed onto our Ground Maintenance and Make A Difference teams, who are responsible for the regular maintenance and upkeeping of the area.

Comments were also received in relation to parking, footpaths, pavements, road safety, trees and other issues. Whilst we understand the needs for improvements in these areas, the affected areas are generally on Hampshire County Council (HCC) land rather than our land. We have forwarded these comments to HCC for action. We apologise we are not able to proceed these matters further.
