Police and Crime Commissioner, Hampshire County Council, Borough Council and Parish Council Elections - 6 May 2021
Elections for Police & Crime Commissioner for Hampshire, Councillors to Hampshire County Council, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and some parish councils are scheduled to take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.
The County Council Elections will be for all 10 divisions in the Basingstoke and Deane area.
The Borough Council elections are for the new ward boundaries and all 54 seats on Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. Information on the new ward boundaries can be view on the ward and parish boundaries webpage. You will be able to cast your vote for up to three candidates in your ward.
If contested, elections will also take place for the following parish councils:
- Baughurst
- Bramley
- Hartley Wespall
- Mapledurwell and Up Nately
- Monk Sherborne
- Newnham
- Rooksdown
- Sherborne St John
- Sherfield on Loddon
- Sherfield Park
- Stratfield Saye
- Wootton St Lawrence
In order to vote in these elections, you need to be registered on the Basingstoke and Deane Register of Electors and you must be:
- Resident in Basingstoke and Deane on the date of the election
- A British, Irish or Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of a member state of the European Union
- 18 years old or over
If you are an eligible elector and you are already on the Register of Electors for Basingstoke and Deane, you do not need to re-register for these elections.
Information on how to register. The deadline for applying to register for voting in the election is Monday 19 April 2021.
In light of the COVID-19 situation, additional measures will be taken to ensure polling stations are safe. Face coverings must be worn in polling stations, unless there is a valid exemption.
Postal and Proxy voting
However, if you wish do not wish to vote at your polling station, you can vote by post or appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.
If you are unable to get to your polling station on 6 May 2021, you can apply for a postal or proxy vote. If you would like to know more information about these options visit the Postal and Proxy voting webpage.

Police & Crime Commissioner Election
The Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) is responsible for the nomination of candidates and agents for this election. They are based at Southampton City Council.
Hampshire County Council Elections
The County Returning Officer is responsible for the overall running of the election. The Local Returning Officer at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is responsible for handling the nomination process and the administration of the election in the Basingstoke and Deane area.
