The personal information you provide will be used to process your request. It is necessary for you to provide this information to us so that we can process your request/provide the service you have requested.

  • We may share your information with other teams within the council in order to provide a service to you, to ensure our records are kept up to date or otherwise where we are required to do so.
  • We will not disclose any information to other organisations unless we are required by law to do so or to prevent fraud
  • Your personal details will only be held as long as is needed for this purpose and in accordance with our retention policy.

Important information about the garden waste service

Please read the important information below before requesting this service:

  • Collections:
    • you will receive 25 garden waste collections per year, once a fortnight on your designated day;
    • no collections will be made for the two week period over Christmas and New Year;
    • collection days remain the same throughout the year and will not change on bank holidays;
    • your subscription is valid for 12 months from the date you join, you can join the service at any time of the year;
    • reminders to renew your subscription will be sent in advance of your renewal date.
  • This service for domestic premises only. We will collect grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, cut flowers, weeds, leaves, twigs (maximum of 10cm diameter) and prunings.
  • The cost of the service is non-refundable, however if you move within the borough you can transfer the service to your new address. If you move outside of the borough, you can transfer the service to another resident. Please give us 10 working days to process the changes and also note that collection dates may change.
  • Your containers must be out for collection at the nearest point to the public highway by 7am (September to April) or 6am (May to August) on the day of collection.
  • Only official BDBC containers with address tags showing collection information will be emptied.
  • Our crews will only collect the number of containers that you have paid for.
  • New/replacement containers
    • new sacks will not automatically be sent to you when you renew, as it is assumed you will use previous year's sacks;
    • replacement sacks can be ordered if they are worn out, go missing. Please note however that as garden waste subscriptions using sacks will no longer be available from April 2024, these containers are being phased out and may not be available for replacement;
    • if you are using the service for the first time and opt for a bin subscription, you will need to purchase a garden waste bin alongside your service;
    • if your bin goes missing, is damaged or stolen, you will need to purchase a replacement.
  • Missed collections
    • if a collection cannot be made due to containers being overweight or containing the wrong items, our crews will leave a tag with an explanation;
    • if your collection has been missed and doesn't have a tag, please visit our missed bin webpage, a missed collection must be reported within one working day;
    • if unavoidable delays occur, collections may be made on a Saturday;
    • in unforeseen circumstances, for example adverse weather, access issues, road closure, where collections cannot be made, please check our website for updates;
    • our crews will not return if your containers were not presented in the correct location by 7am (September to April) or 6am (May to August).
  • Sacks only - please leave a weighted object next to your sacks, our crews will put the weight on your empty sacks to stop them blowing away.
  • Bins only - if your bin is frozen and cannot be emptied, our crews will re-attempt collection when possible. Please check missed bin and collection days webpage.
