Programme of events, activities and special offers that showcase environmentally-friendly living in Basingstoke and Deane. Most events are free of charge and include village markets, family fun days, guided cycle rides, advice and information, visit to Chineham Energy Recovery Facility and lots more! Some events have a small charge to cover the costs of organisation and refreshments but we can promise great value for money.

Woodchip collection

Event runs for the whole of green week
Venue: Stratton Park car park, Pack Lane, Basingstoke RG22 5HN
Cost: Free

Bring your own bags to fill with woodchip for your garden. This is produced from green waste from maintenance work in the borough’s parks and countryside. It’s a really sustainable use of a local waste product. Just turn up and help yourselves – while stocks last!

On this not-to-be-missed highlight of Green Week, attend a choice of talks and workshops based on the science behind being more ‘green’ followed by a family friendly TV gameshow style interactive talk: ‘The Burger Apocalypse’.

The choice of workshops are:

  • Thermal Imaging
  • Could Basingstoke ever be completely powered by renewables?
  • Capturing Carbon in Your Garden
  • Upcycling Your Old Clothing
  • New Ways of Urban Food Production
The Burger Apocalypse is an entertaining and highly participative show explaining how you can cut your food carbon footprint and reduce food waste. There will also be a chance to chat to others and meet volunteers from a wide range of community groups with a ‘green’ theme.

Air Quality in Basingstoke Expert Panel with Friends of the Earth

How polluted is the air in Basingstoke? Friends of the Earth join local people to form a panel for discussion on the issue of air quality in our town. Join Café Sci for a talk followed by discussion on transitioning to a more sustainable world.

The Tea Bar will be open for at least half an hour before the talk, so you can get yourself a drink and have a chat with other participants.
