The aim of the handbook is to act as an easily accessible reference document, providing answers to most of your day-to-day questions.
The handbook is useful for new staff joining Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, as well as existing managers and staff. It contains employee information, guidelines, policies and procedures.

The Staff Forum provides an opportunity for staff and managers to meet and discuss ideas, issues, drafts of new policies, organisational change etc, openly and in a spirit of free exchange of views.
Participants are interested in making the council an event better place to work.
Below is a list provides examples of the types of issues that might be discussed at the Staff Forum:
Unison is the recognised trade union at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. UNISON representatives can support council employees with general issues affecting members and non-members alike, such as terms and conditions of employment and negotiations on pay at a local, organisational level.
Members (and the service is restricted to members) can expect an individual service addressing personal questions about work or concerns and issues at work, for example advice, help, representation for capability, grievance and disciplinary issues and more.

Criminal record checks
Basingstoke and Deane is an umbrella organisation and will undertake criminal record checks on behalf of other employers under certain circumstances. These are carried out through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).
