Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places

Help us make sure that voting is accessible, convenient and in suitable places.

Why are we doing a review?

The Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places (Parliamentary Elections) Regulations 2006 and Section 17 of the Electoral Registration Act 2013 require local authorities to review their polling districts, places, and stations every five years. The review period started in October, and each authority may choose the exact dates and length of their review; however it must fall within a 16 month period. The compulsory review period is from October 2018 to January 2020.

We also want to make sure that elections can be delivered successfully for the newly created wards, and that voting facilities are convenient and accessible for electors, following the recent Local Government Boundary Commission for England's (LGBCE) review of our ward boundaries. This reduced the number of wards from 29 to 18 and the number of Councillors from 60 to 54 (starting from the May 2020 elections).

The review process

The legislation requires the Council to consult with the (Acting) Returning Officers for the parliamentary constituencies of Basingstoke, North East Hampshire and North West Hampshire.

The (Acting) Returning Officer has put forward a submission for proposed changes, which you can read below. Within this document there are suggested changes to the existing arrangements in some areas.

We would welcome the view of all residents, particularly disabled residents, or any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability, on the proposals or any other related matters. Persons or bodies making representations should, if possible, give alternative places that may be used as polling places.

A public consultation will take place from Friday 28 June 2019 and close on Friday 9 August 2019.

You can submit your ideas in a number of ways:
