Popley Community Park play and recreational facilities
Improvements to Popley Community Park underway
Works to improve the play equipment and park features at Popley Community Park are well underway.
We are making £400,000 worth of improvements to the park in Popley Way thanks to funding from developers’ contributions.
The community park was first developed around 10 years ago. The additional funding provides an exciting opportunity to upgrade the facilities again.
Last November people were asked to give their views on what new play equipment they’d like to see in the park and what features could be improved.
Responses saw a list of five priorities created for the space focusing on a junior and toddler play area, seating, perimeter fencing, outdoor gym and a teen play zone.
There was also support for nature trails, wild flowers and wildlife improvements and these have been incorporated into the final plans.
Following delays owing to the COVID-19 outbreak, contractors have been on site to replace the perimeter fencing. Works to plant trees, wildlife friendly new hedges and colourful spring flowering bulbs are currently taking place.
Exciting new proposals have been developed for the play areas and teen zone, including a parkour area (shown on plans). The existing play zones will now be closed off to allow work to proceed safely but the new facilities for all the age groups should be fully open again after Christmas.
Outdoor fitness equipment and new seating are also being installed over the winter and the full project is expected to be completed in March 2021.
