Popley West play and open space improvements

Plans to redevelop the open space at Tintern Close and at Popley Community Park have now been completed.

The scheme at Tintern Close included removing the old ball courts and play area and replacing them with a redesigned and remodelled open space. This incorporated new play facilities, connecting path network and planting. At the community park, there is now a multi-use games area which was funded by developers’ contributions.

Community needs in the redevelopment of the Popley play area were initially set out in the Popley East Community Plan and Marnel and Merton Community Group Action Plan.

Tintern Close

The new play and open space facilities saw some big changes in the area with the provision of a new fenced games area, purpose built for basketball and 5-a-side football, and a new equipped play space for children up to 12 years old, linked together with new paths through a central landscaped open space incorporating planting and additional play features (such as a cradle swing on the new grass mounding).

Popley Community Park

Also as part of the programme of local improvements funded by developer contributions, a new multi-use games area at Popley Community Park has been created to provide the community with better and more adaptable facilities. The new games area will provide increased opportunities for sport and leisure.
