Beginners under starter’s orders for running course

News release 9635, published on 14 Feb 2020
Get on the starting line to join a running course for absolute beginners this spring with support from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
The new Couch to 2k group sessions start in Popley on Monday 2 March and those people taking part achieving real results in just 10 weeks.
Coaches from Live 2 Run 4 Fun will support and encourage participants with no previous running experience and anyone who feels that a 2km distance is a more realistic target than the traditional 5km.
The hour-long sessions will be held every Monday, meeting in the car park of Popley Fields Community Centre, from 7pm to 8pm.
Before the course starts, anybody who is interested should register their interest and attend a drop-in session on Monday 24 February at 7pm at the community centre in Carpenters Down.
Participants will be given their own personal training plan, diary and course sessions information booklet to help put them through their paces. The course costs £20.
Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety Cllr Simon Bound said: “We have already successfully supported a number of Couch to 5k and 2k courses to encourage people to achieve new health goals through exercise.
“If you’ve not run before, achieving 5k may seem a step too far, so the 2k course is an excellent way to set off on the right foot. This is a great opportunity to exercise and achieve new goals with others and I’d encourage people to sign up.”
