Rooksdown play and open space improvements

Rooksdown Skatepark impression 400

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have exciting plans to redevelop the open space within Rooksdown, known as Rooksdown Park. A masterplan for the park was developed with local residents in 2013 and these plans are already taking shape.

The agreed masterplan for Rooksdown Park.

In 2015, a small section of footpath was constructed along with avenue-style tree planting and in 2016, a new children’s play area was created, thanks to section 106 developer contributions.

At the park, a network of footpaths are being created and existing bins and benches are being relocated. There are also road crossing works underway to improve park access for those visiting from the nearby housing development.

For 2017, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Rooksdown Parish Council are working together to bring a new skate park facility to the park.

This follows a 2015 survey, by the parish council, asking for comments and feedback about the proposed skate park. View the results of the survey.

The borough council then carried out a follow up consultation with local people at the Civic Offices on 7 February 2017, seeking further comments on the skate park design.

The scheme is currently at the planning application stage and the final programme for installation will be confirmed following the planning decision.

The skate park project is thanks to a successful Local Infrastructure Fund (LIF) bid from the parish council, which secured funding for the delivery of the scheme.
