Preserving the borough’s beauty

A plan to protect and enhance an area of outstanding natural beauty that covers nearly one third of the borough’s countryside has been approved by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. At a meeting on Tuesday 10 September, Cabinet agreed the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Management Plan, which sets out its vision for the next five years and replaces the previous management plan that expires this year.

Council makes climate emergency pledge

Urgent action to respond to the changing climate is underway in Basingstoke and Deane following the declaration of a Climate Emergency. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has taken the first important steps to tackling the issue head on by agreeing action must be taken to minimise our impact on the environment.

Our dog warden leads the way!

Reuniting lost dogs with owners, finding places for strays and looking after every dog in the council’s care is all in a day’s work for Laura Yeates, who has bagged a gold award for the fifth year. The council's dog warden has been awarded the RSPCA Gold Stray Dog PawPrint Award, acknowledging the quality of the service provided by Laura and those who work with her.

Help to Buy event coming soon

First time buyers looking to get on the property ladder in Basingstoke and Deane are invited to find out more at a free Help to Buy event.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will host the information event, in partnership with Help to Buy South, at the Civic Offices on Thursday 26 September from 3pm to 8pm.

New business-class hotel takes shape

Construction of a new business-class hotel in Basingstoke’s central business district is expected to complete in January. Since October, contractor Willmott Dixon has been working to build the new 153-bedroom hotel, with leisure club, co-working space, restaurant, bar and a coffee shop which is due to be completed by the end of January 2020.
