Love Basingstoke presents month of town centre events

Life-sized arcade games, arts trails, outdoor performances and much more will be on offer during a bumper programme of events this September in the Top of the Town.
Love Basingstoke is hosting a series of activities and events with something for everyone during each weekend throughout September. Kicking off the month this Saturday (4 September), shoppers in the Top of the Town will be able to do some star spotting with a familiar face on a piano making an appearance from 11.30am to coincide with the Legends Festival which is taking place in the War Memorial Park.
Fancy something a bit more relaxing? On 11 September, join Fluid Motion Theatre Company at its All in The Mind Festival in Glebe Gardens – a free arts festival featuring a host of dance, theatre, music and visual arts aimed at opening up conversations around mental health. Wellbeing activities including chalking the streets, which is aimed at children, will also be on offer with local artists Rachel Davis and Jacky Purtill and Hampshire Cultural Trust in the Top of the Town from 11am.
Celebrating the magic of the movies, come and help create a new blockbuster movie in the Top of the Town with a comical film crew on Saturday 18 September. Junk Jodie will also be on hand to make film character puppets which will be displayed as part of an art trail across the Top of the Town and you can also get involved by making puppet dragons inspired by the Tolkien and the Rings exhibition in the Willis Museum.
The popular Borough Basket Street Market returns to the Top of the Town on Friday 24 September between 11am and 5.30pm. Rest up after shopping at Fluid Motion’s Take Ten pop-up installation.
The final weekend of activities sees the return of the Exit 6 Film Festival on Saturday 25 September. Come and take part in an interactive game zone Actual Reality Arcade for all the family in Eastrop Park, from life size Kong and Tetris to Invaders and Pac-Man, there is something for everyone.
Follow the Proteus Youth Theatre around the town as part of their Protopia project and enjoy their positive protests, find Junk Jodie’s film puppets on a trail throughout the Top of the Town and complete the Tolkien tokens hidden on the trail by Hampshire Cultural Trust. To top off the weekend, join larger-than-life puppet, Daniel, in ‘Walk of the Dandelion’, an uplifting performance designed to spread joy, connect families, friends and neighbours.
The programme of activities is supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, the government’s Welcome Back Fund, Arts Council England, Without Walls, Hampshire Cultural Trust and Proteus Theatre Company.
