Targeted support for businesses as part of new COVID-19 grant scheme

News release 10087, published on 12 Jan 2022
Two new grant schemes to support businesses that have been heavily impacted by the new COVID-19 variant have been launched by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

To help with significant ongoing challenges for a number of the borough’s businesses, the government has announced a new Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant which will provide one-off grants between £2,667 and £6,000 for hospitality, leisure and accommodation businesses who are liable for a business rates account.

A new Additional Restrictions Grant has also been launched by the council to provide funding to businesses who would not be eligible for the national scheme or do not have a business rates account.

This scheme is available for businesses in the travel, events, hospitality, leisure, accommodation, personal care and sports sectors as well as taxi companies. Businesses will receive a grant of between £2,700 and £18,000 depending on both their business sector and rateable value of premises, if applicable.

All grants will be based on either the businesses’ rateable value or their business sector. To receive funding, businesses must have been trading on 30 December 2021.

To simplify the process for businesses, there will be one application form for both schemes and the council will decide on which grant businesses are entitled to.

Applications will close at 5pm on Friday 18 February. Grants for the additional restrictions scheme will be awarded on a first come first served basis so the scheme may close earlier if the funding has been fully allocated.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Major Projects Cllr John Izett said: “We know the pandemic has been an extremely difficult time for businesses across the borough and a number of sectors have been particularly hard hit by uncertainty and periods of restrictions.

“As a council, we are committed to supporting local businesses through this difficult time. I am pleased that by utilising government funding we are able to provide additional much-needed financial support for these sectors and help to protect people’s jobs for the future.

“As we have limited funding available through this scheme, I would encourage all businesses in the borough who are eligible for this funding to apply so we can administer this support as quickly as possible.”
