Help find a pudding fit for The Queen at a right royal tea

News release 10167, published on 25 Apr 2022
Deputy Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Paul Miller is inviting residents to help him judge a competition for young chefs to create a pudding fit for Her Majesty The Queen at a special afternoon tea in May.

Catering and hospitality students at Basingstoke College of Technology have been taking on the challenge of coming up with their own desserts to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Deputy Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Paul Miller, who is set to be the Mayor next year, will have the difficult task of choosing the winner at a special event on Thursday 26 May 2022 at 3pm. Residents are being invited to join him to sample some of the puddings and enjoy a special afternoon tea prepared by the students. The winning pudding will be served at the Mayor’s Jubilee Civic Sunday Service on Sunday 5 June 2022 at St Michael’s Church.

Deputy Mayor Cllr Miller said: “A whole host of events and celebrations are being planned to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and I’m looking forward to seeing what these imaginative and talented students have created as puddings to honour this very special occasion.”

The restaurant will be decorated with red, white and blue in honour of the occasion and tickets, costing £15.95 plus booking fee, are available from

The local search for a right royal dessert follows the nationwide competition run by Fortnum & Mason earlier this year to find a pudding to be dedicated to The Queen in her Platinum Jubilee year, with more information at
