News release 10254, published on 09 Sep 2022
Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane is encouraging residents to pay their tributes through an e-book of condolence on the Royal website.
A selection of messages left through the website at www.royal.gov.uk will be passed onto members of the Royal Family, and may be held in the Royal Archives for posterity.
Cllr Paul Miller said: “I know that residents of Basingstoke and Deane will want to pay tribute to our late Queen, who was held in the highest esteem locally.
“As a borough we are greatly saddened by her passing and I know many people will wish to express this through written tributes. An e-book of condolence is available on the Royal website and I encourage people wishing to share their thoughts, feelings and memories of the Queen to do this through this online book so that it is available to the Royal Family.”
People wanting to leave floral tributes locally can lay these in a marked area at the edge of the War Memorial Park in Basingstoke near to the Civic Offices. The Mayor Cllr Paul Miller laid the first bouquet today (Friday 9 September) accompanied by the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire Lady Portal MBE DL (Louisa).
For those needing help accessing the website or adding their condolences, staff in Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council reception will be able to provide support during opening hours.
