Find low cost homes in the borough with new register

Residents looking to buy low cost homes in the borough are being encouraged to join a new home ownership register set up by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
The online register is a one-stop shop for people wanting to find out the latest information on affordable properties to buy in the area.
Details of new homes and existing properties for resale are available on the website and alerts may be sent out to those people who have registered their details when suitable properties become available. Properties will include shared ownership homes, local discounted homes and homes through the government’s First Homes scheme, when they become available.
 
The register is open for all to join but schemes will each have their individual eligibility criteria which residents will need to meet to progress with a purchase. It is the latest in a package of support provided by the council to help residents in the borough get on the housing ladder and its timing coincides with the announced closure by Homes England of the Help to Buy website. 
The council recently held its ninth low cost home ownership event in January, welcoming in hundreds of people interested in affordable homes to buy in the borough.  The council also provides loans of up to £30,000 through its Own Home Loan scheme to help first time buyers purchase a new or existing property in the borough. 
 
Cabinet Member for Homes and Regeneration Cllr Samuel Carr said: “As a borough council we are taking action to help local first-time buyers into their own homes with a package of support which includes providing information on the schemes and properties available in the borough and offering loans to help purchase homes.
 
“I am passionate about helping first time buyers to get onto the housing ladder and turning their aspirations into a reality and this new Home Ownership Register demonstrates my commitment to this. With the imminent closure of the Help to Buy website, our register will become even more valuable in helping residents to find out more about the schemes available and be among the first to know when properties become available.”
