A free, family Easter trail comes to Basingstoke

News release 10369, published on 06 Apr 2023

This Easter holiday families in Basingstoke town centre are able to enjoy a free, augmented reality story trail.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has teamed up with High Street Safari to give young visitors the chance to track down Easter eggs from the land of ‘Springtopia’, where spring animals are having an art competition.

Players are be able to guess which animal painted each egg and then scan a QR code to reveal them in augmented reality. There are fun riddles and challenges to do along the way and at the end each family completing the trail will be given a free e-book to read at home.

Featuring ten stops in the Top of the Town including the Dice Tower, Skoolkit, Willows Coffee House and Scooperb, the Springtopia trail takes about 45 minutes to complete but can be completed in more than one visit and in any order. It is free to take part in and doesn't need families to download or sign up to anything. The trail works on any smart device, such as a smart phone.

Families will be able to start the trail by finding any of the characters and engage with the experience by scanning each QR code, choosing what happens in the story and seeing the characters in augmented reality.

Economy, Arts and Culture Manager Daniel Garnier said: “The idea behind this event is to encourage families to visit and support businesses in the Top of the Town. With augmented reality experiences and fun challenges, the Springtopia trail will be a fun and relaxing day out for children and parent alike.”

The trail runs from today (Thursday 6 April) until Friday 21 April. For more information about the trail, visit the website: www.highstreetsafari.com/springtopia
