Sadness at death of former Basingstoke Town Mayor
The Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane has announced the death of Criss Connor, a former borough and county councillor, who passed away on Sunday 29 December 2024.
Criss served as a district councillor in the 1970s and was one of the last Town Mayors of Basingstoke in 1975 to 1976, before the council became the Borough of Basingstoke and Deane in 1978 with a Mayor for the whole area.
He later represented the Winklebury ward for Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council from 2001 until 2006.
Criss was also a Hampshire County Councillor, representing Basingstoke North West from 1985 to 1989 and Basingstoke Central from 2013 to 2017. He was named an Honorary Alderman, a formal title conferred by the county council to recognise what is considered to be outstanding service as a councillor.
Criss is survived by his wife Angela, his son Steven, daughter Jane and two grandchildren
Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Dan Putty said: “Criss’ commitment and service to Basingstoke and its communities spans several decades at both borough and county level, for which we should all be very grateful.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time."
The flag at the council offices will be flown at half-mast on the day of Criss’ funeral on Monday 27 January 2025.
