Energy-saving experts to help residents cut bills

News release 10666, published on 29 Sep 2025

Ahead of the energy price cap going up again on Wednesday (1 October), every household in Basingstoke and Deane is being invited to book a free home energy survey that could help them save hundreds of pounds a year on their energy bills.

The one-hour visits, carried out by trained assessors from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, are designed to help people understand how to keep their homes warmer and more comfortable in the colder months while saving money on energy.

Over 500 households have already had free money-saving advice from the council’s energy-saving experts since they first began visiting people’s homes two years ago.

After their home visit, residents receive a tailored report with practical steps they can take to improve their home’s energy efficiency and lower heating costs.

Advice ranges from simple, everyday tips to more impactful home improvements, like insulation and solar panels. It also covers grants and funding that could partly or fully pay for these home upgrades, depending on people’s individual circumstances.

“You could save hundreds of pounds a year on your energy bills with the tailored advice you’d get after one of our energy-saving experts visits you,” said the Cabinet Member responsible for the energy-saving help, Cllr Chris Tomblin.

“It doesn’t matter if you rent or own your home, live in a flat or a house, or use gas, oil, or another heating system. If you live in Basingstoke and Deane, this service is available to you.

“Our team will give you practical, personalised advice to help cut your energy costs and keep your home comfortable. And it’s all completely free.”
