Enjoy a cup of cheer as community centre opens its doors
Everybody is welcome to the special launch event of the community facility and Café in the Park, from 9am to 3pm, in Broadmere Road, Basingstoke.
It’s an opportunity to check out the new facilities for use by community groups and local residents of all ages – whether it’s for a class, an event or just a chat with friends over cakes and a cup of tea.
Hatch Warren and Beggarwood Community Association aims to make the modern centre in Beggarwood Park the true heart of the community. It is planned that the hall will be used a variety of community groups, including parents and carers with babies and toddlers, youth organisations and older people.
The contemporary building, designed to blend in with the natural landscape, has been built with council funding of £760,000, received from developer’s contributions. In addition to a community café, there are spacious rooms for meetings and get-togethers. People will be able to book the new facility for a range of activities or events such as birthday parties. Volunteers are being sought to help manage the centre, which will be run by the association on a daily basis.
Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety Cllr Simon Bound said: “The opening of this wonderful new centre is a real cause for celebration for the community in Beggarwood. I hope as many people as possible will enjoy making full use of the facilities and take it from strength to strength.
“I would urge anybody who is interested in having their say on how the facility is managed to become a trustee or volunteer to help to ensure that the centre continues to prosper in the years ahead.”
