Council funding boost for borough's play areas

News release 8303, published on 04 Sep 2018
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s developers’ contributions are being used to support local open space and play area projects.

Children can look forward to improved facilities and new pre-school play equipment at the popular Kingsmill Road park with a grant of £13,134. An additional £4,743 has been set aside to enhance the open space with new tree planting along the footpath and around the area in Cranbourne.

Two Chineham community projects will also receive funding from the council. The Hanmore Road play area is to be refurbished with £85,000 and will include new play equipment for toddlers and junior aged children.

A safer new pedestrian bridge will be built over Petty’s Brook at the Toll House Meadow open space with a grant for £20,000.

This will replace the dilapidated existing flat bridge which doesn’t have guard rails and floods after high rainfall. The design of the new footbridge is arched with posts and handrails to improve safer crossing.

The council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Community Safety Councillor Simon Bound said: “I’m delighted to see the developers’ funding being used to great effect with these community projects.

“The new facilities planned for these community sites will give children and their families a great choice of play equipment to suit all ages, promising a fun time for all in a safe environment.

“The council is pleased to support these much-needed community projects in the borough and I look forward to seeing them taking shape over the next few months.”

The council uses developers’ funding (S106 contributions) to provide new facilities or enhance existing ones in the borough for the benefit of all residents living close to new developments in the borough.
