Views sought on Upper Cufaude Farm development

News release 8347, published on 16 Nov 2018
People are being asked to help shape how land put forward for housing at the Upper Cufaude Farm site in the parish of Bramley should be developed in the future.

A consultation on planning guidance for the Upper Cufaude Farm housing allocation site is underway, giving people the chance to put forward their views on what is needed including the type and size of homes, community facilities, transport, access, design and layout.

The draft Upper Cufaude Farm Development Brief Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been prepared by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in its role as the local planning authority to support the delivery of the Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan 2011 to 2029.

The document will guide the future development of the greenfield site, which lies to the north east of Basingstoke Town. Hampshire County Council own the land and an option agreement is in place with a housebuilder to develop the main part of the site. The allocation covers approximately 26 hectares of land and is capable of accommodating approximately 390 homes and associated community infrastructure.

This SPD does not include new policies but identifies more detailed development principles that build on existing planning policy, such as including a mix of homes and community infrastructure to deliver a mixed and sustainable community, transport and access, environmental quality, heritage and design quality.

The document is a guide for how the site should be developed in accordance with the relevant local plan policies and, once adopted by the council, it will be considered when determining relevant planning applications.

The council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure Cllr Mark Ruffell said: “We are very interested in hearing the views of residents about this site and I would encourage residents to take a look at the document and give us their feedback.

“The consultation on this draft document will be open until 4pm on Monday 17 December 2018. It is available for inspection at Basingstoke Discovery Centre and Chineham Library during their normal opening hours. You can also find it on the council website and in the council offices.”

The draft Upper Cufaude Farm Development Brief SPD can be viewed on the council’s website at

It is also available for public inspection at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offices between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm on Mondays to Thursdays and 8.30am and 4.30pm on Fridays.
