Borough council given bronze award as part of defence employer scheme
The borough council has received a bronze award as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, promising to support veterans, including those who have been injured in service, in the period of transition from the armed forces to a new career.
The scheme also recognises the contribution an organisation makes to providing flexibility for reservists and support for cadet instructors and partners of those in the military.
Servicemen and women now leaving the armed forces will also be able to view and apply for vacancies open at the council through the Career Transition Partnership.
The bronze award builds on the signing of the Community Covenant, which supplements the national Armed Forces Covenant, in June 2013 and supports the armed forces community in accessing services to which they are entitled.
The borough council’s Leader Cllr Clive Sanders said: “The men and women of our armed forces and their families give so much for this country and we want to help them as they leave active service and look for new careers.
“This is an opportunity to thank them, on behalf of Basingstoke and Deane, and reconfirm our support.”
