More space for community activities following funding boost
Rooksdown Community Association has been looking to expand its facilities to offer more activities and services for children, families and older people in the community, as its current facility has reached its capacity.
Thanks to a funding boost of £166,561 from developer contributions, two empty retail units have been purchased and work is now under way to create a suitable space.
The units were originally purchased by the community association, with the help of Rooksdown Parish Council, and the funds will repay both organisations.
Once set up, the new area will allow the association to provide further activities with the support of healthcare and education partners.
Cabinet Member responsible for regeneration Cllr Terri Reid said: “The council is very pleased to support this project which will allow Rooksdown Community Association to offer a wider range of services and activities.
“Improving residents’ quality of life is a key priority for the council and we want local communities to thrive. The new sessions will assist residents to keep fit and healthy but also give them the opportunity to meet new people in their community.”
