Take part in Basingstoke's Big Spring Clean at the Top of the Town
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has been awarded £30,000 as part of the government’s High Streets Community Clean Up Fund.
Working in partnership with Basingstoke Together Business Improvement District, Basingstoke’s Big Spring Clean will see the Top of the Town area deep cleaned between Monday 8 April and Thursday 18 April.
This will include chewing gum removal, jet-washing and general cleaning of paving areas, alleyways and floral planters in the area.
Businesses can show their support by giving their shopfronts a spring clean including washing down their windows and adding planters.
Volunteers are also being asked to take part in a community clean up session between 8.30am and 12pm on Tuesday 16 April at Glebe Gardens. This will include litter picking and shrub clearing and weeding.
Basingstoke Together’s chief executive Lucy Boazman said: “The Basingstoke Big Spring Clean is a great opportunity to demonstrate the community spirit across the town centre. Having pride in our local area and ensuring it’s a nice place for people to spend time will add huge levels of benefit to local businesses and those who come into the town.
"A big benefit of being a business improvement district is that we’ve been able pull this project together in a matter of weeks, supported by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and using the grant awarded by central government, in order to deliver an impactful result for Basingstoke.”
The council’s Head of Borough Development and Implementation Stephanie Cordon added: “We are delighted to be supporting Basingstoke Together as part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the Top of the Town is a vibrant destination for residents and visitors. We hope to see lots of businesses and volunteers coming together to help give the area a spring clean, alongside the work that we are doing.”
Basingstoke’s Big Spring Clean coincides with the country’s biggest-ever community clear up, The Great British Spring Clean, taking place between 22 March and 23 April.
