Game set and match for the green alternative
The outdoor tennis courts at War Memorial Park and the games area in the Fieldgate Centre, Kingsclere, will receive upgraded LED lighting systems.
This will mean big savings on electricity bills, better quality lighting and lower energy consumption.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has approved the scheme to upgrade the lighting at both sites, investing a total of more than £28,000 from its Green Alternative Investment scheme.
It is anticipated that cost savings of more than £3,000 a year will be made thanks to the LED lighting, and there is the potential for a large reduction in carbon emissions.
Users will benefit from more reliable lighting and it is hoped that the new floodlights will result in increased use of the Multi Use Games Area at the Fieldgate Centre, which hosts formal netball matches and informal five-a-side football.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement Cllr Hayley Eachus said: “This is a really positive step forward.
"The LED lights will be a major benefit for regular and new users of these two facilities and I hope that this investment encourages even more people to get involved in sports at the centres.
“This project demonstrates our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint through investment in environmentally friendly cost-effective schemes."
