Opening doors to new homes at Help to Buy event
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will host the information event, in partnership with Help to Buy South, at the Civic Offices on Thursday 26 September from 3pm to 8pm.
People can drop in to get free advice about various schemes such as the Government’s Help to Buy, Shared Ownership and the new Basingstoke and Deane Own Home Loan. There will also be information on other schemes, affordability, eligibility and how to apply.
As well as advisers from Help to Buy South, there will be representatives from housing associations, independent financial advisers and building societies on hand to answer questions.
This is the sixth Help to Buy event hosted in the Civic Offices over the past three years and supports the council’s drive to provide opportunities for people across the borough to buy their own home.
This drive includes a recent decision to create a council loan scheme - Basingstoke and Deane Own Home Loan - to help people under 35 on the council’s housing register to buy new or existing homes with loans of up of £30,000.
Cabinet Member for Homes and Families Cllr Tristan Robinson said: “Buying your own home is an aspiration for many people but the market can seem just that bit too far out of reach. As a council we want to give as much support as we can to help our residents to achieve this goal.
“We’ve held a number of Help to Buy information events in the past which have been very well attended. This is a great opportunity to come and get free financial advice, understand what support there is and the types of homes available.”
