New affordable homes planned for South Ham
All of the planning and preparatory work on the proposed development of 10 two bedroom and three one bedroom flats on the site of a redundant building at Sandringham Court, Paddock Road, South Ham is in place. This means that work on site can begin before March 2020. The existing building will be demolished and the site redeveloped by Clarion Housing Group, providing more affordable homes for rent in the area, to be made available to local people on the council’s housing register.
The affordable housing scheme has been made possible thanks to the council agreeing to modify, at no cost, a historic covenant on the site, to enable the construction of the new homes.
It is hoped the new homes will be completed by spring 2021.
The council’s Cabinet Member for Homes and Families Cllr Tristan Robinson said: “Delivering affordable homes for local people across the borough is a key priority for this council and through working with partners like Clarion we can make things happen. I would particularly like to acknowledge and express my thanks to the local ward members for their hard work in helping ensure the plans for these new affordable homes in South Ham become a reality.”
Head of Development for Clarion Housing Liz Hills said: “We are pleased to be delivering much-needed new homes for social rent to South Ham. Working closely with the local community and Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, we have ensured that this project becomes a reality.”
