Innovators invited to Venturefest South 2020

News release 9579, published on 14 Nov 2019
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is inviting all local innovators and budding entrepreneurs to help showcase the best of the region at Venturefest South.

A festival of innovation is the theme of next year’s Venturefest South, which will take place on 27 March 2020 at the Ageas Bowl in Hedge End, Southampton.

The event brings together top talent from the region to demonstrate technologies and innovations, and match entrepreneurs with the right organisations to take their businesses to the next level. This year’s event saw over 800 people attend.

The annual event, now in its fourth year, will feature workshops, expert speakers, innovation demonstrations, the Young Entrepreneurs’ Zone and informal open mic pitching sessions.

Only 50 innovator places are available and the council’s economic development team is calling on innovative businesses in the borough to seize the opportunity and take part.

Executive Director of Borough Development at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Ian Boll said: “We are calling all our local innovators with ground-breaking new business ideas to put themselves forward to take part in Venturefest South.

“Participants don’t have to be start-ups. The invitation is for any business that is innovating, creating new products and wanting to showcase them.

“Based on the success of past years, this event helps innovators to gain expertise, promote their business and meet investors. Every selected business will get a free exhibitor stand at the innovation showcase and opportunities for networking.”

Last year’s Venturefest South Innovator of the Year is Kate Bell who pioneered the ‘Zip Us In’ business, a jacket expander design for people carrying babies. Kate, named one of the UK’s top ten women entrepreneurs by Business Game Changer Magazine, is supported by Basingstoke-based business support hub IncuHive.

She said: “Being recognised at Venturefest 2019 as Innovator of the Year was an incredible achievement for me. Innovation can mean so many things but the association is often made with technology. Getting potential investors excited about innovation outside of that space has been challenging. The event was a great experience and a wonderful opportunity to network with businesses facing similar challenges.”

If you are interested in taking part and want to find out more about the event or would like support, please contact the council’s economic development team at or by calling 01256 845495 before Friday 29 November.
