Give your views on park play area refurbishment
The council plans to refurbish the play area next year and is asking people to suggest what equipment is needed, what ages should be catered for and what additional equipment should be included – such as picnic tables, seating and cycle rails.
The proposed upgrade, to be funded from the council’s Play Area Refurbishment Programme, could be themed or more traditional in appearance but it should be appropriate for its position in the Green Flag award-winning War Memorial Park.
People can comment at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/war-memorial-park-play-area until Sunday 5 January. The responses received from the consultation will shape the final design of the facilities and work is expected to start in spring 2020.
Cabinet Member for Planning, Infrastructure and Natural Environment Cllr Mark Ruffell said: “Basingstoke’s War Memorial Park is one of our prestigious Green Flag parks which is enjoyed by people of all ages. The popular play area is a well-used community facility, therefore it is only right that we involve as many people as possible in shaping how it could look in the future.
“We’d love to hear your views on how we can upgrade and improve the play area to benefit even more people.”
This new project is in addition to work already scheduled to replace the popular skate park, behind Totally Tennis at War Memorial Park, and provide better facilities for BMX bike riders and fans of parkour and free-running.
