Businesses encouraged to sign up to new online marketplace
Businesses are invited to sign up to this free scheme ahead of the launch next month. The exciting e-commerce platform, The Borough Basket, has been set up to help local businesses take the leap in selling their goods online and will provide a single website for residents to buy products from their favourite shops and restaurants.
With more people turning to online shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic and Christmas not far away, it is the perfect time to give online shopping a go alongside visiting the borough's fantastic range of shops.
Leader of Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Cllr Ken Rhatigan said: “The launch of this exciting new online marketplace for the borough’s independent businesses that we all know and love is very timely.
“Not only will it provide a boost to all those smaller local shops and restaurants who have faced enormous struggles to survive during the pandemic but it will also give people a convenient and easy way to shop locally, especially in the run-up to Christmas.
“The council is pleased to be part of this excellent initiative, which will support local businesses to be able to sell their goods for the first time online, and I would like to thank all of our partners who have worked quickly to set the marketplace up. I would encourage any independent shop or restaurant owner who is interested to find out more and sign up.”
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will reimburse participating businesses with any sales commission and transaction fees charged by the online payment solution up to the first £500 generated in sales and also provide business and marketing support.
The online marketplace has been set up by the council, The Designlab and partners through the Love Basingstoke group, and will be supported by IncuHive business incubation services.
The Love Basingstoke group comprises Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Basingstoke Together BID, Destination Basingstoke, The Malls, Festival Place, Basing View, Anvil Arts, BDT and London Clancy property agents.
