Mayor's choice Multi Denominations 2025

The Mayor will appoint alternative Multi-Denomination Representatives throughout the mayoral year.

The role of the Multi-Denomination Representative is to provide spiritual guidance to the Mayor when required. They also assist in organising the civic service, contribute to other civic occasions, and prepare prayers or suitable reflections for council meetings. At such events, the Representative is usually seated near the Mayor.

In addition, the Multi-Denomination Representative serves as a key point of contact for local religious and faith groups and offers advice to the Mayor on matters relating to faith and belief. Recognising that the community is diverse and not united by a single belief system, the Representative helps the Mayor understand the differences and similarities between various faiths and practices.

By attending services and events of different faiths, the Representative supports the Mayor in demonstrating inclusivity and respect for freedom of worship. This visible participation reinforces the Mayor’s role as a representative of all residents. It is therefore essential that the Multi-Denomination Representative supports the Mayor in engaging with, understanding, and leading all sections of the community.
