Courses, seminars and accreditation

The council, in partnership with 'Energise Me', offer a programme of sports volunteer education courses to develop the quality and quantity of coaches and volunteers involved in sport locally. These courses are particularly relevant to those clubs who are working towards or renewing their National Governing Body accreditation.

Coaching courses

The council arranges first aid and child protection courses throughout the year alongside a variety of club and coach development workshops.

Opportunities to run these courses are currently limited. However, if you are interested in finding out more about these workshops contact Mike O'Mahony by email mike.OMahony@basingstoke.gov.uk or phoning 01256 845442.

Bursaries for sports courses

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) has previously operated a ‘Bursaries for Sports Courses’ scheme which aims to facilitate the progression of local people into coaching roles and to support the development of Basingstoke and Deane’s clubs. The scheme is open to volunteers obtaining Level 1 or equivalent qualifications. The scheme is currently not open due to the COVID-19 pandemic but please check back for details in the event that it will be relaunched in the next financial year.

'Energise Coaches' also offer funding towards level 2 (or above) coaching courses.

For more information on funding for coaches, volunteers and officials visit the Energise me website.

Accreditation/Clubmark

All sports clubs are encouraged to gain accreditation. Some National Governing Bodies of sport have their own accreditation schemes while others use the Clubmark kitemark.

Clubs can benefit from gaining accreditation by:

  • Increased membership
  • Club development
  • Development of coaches and volunteers
  • Increased club profile

Clubmark ensures that accredited clubs operate to consistent, accepted and minimum standards. It is awarded to acknowledge the fact that a club has complied with key requirements with regard to:

  • its playing/participation programme
  • duty of care and safeguarding and protecting children
  • knowing your club
  • club management

For more information, please visit the Club Matters Clubmark website page.

For assistance with gaining accreditation, please contact Energise Me by emailing info@energiseme.org
