Following the cancellation of Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards and sports activities following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sports Grant Aid scheme has been postponed. We hope to open the scheme for the 2021/22 sporting season and will review this in line with the latest government guidance around sports facilities and activities.
Grant aid and scholarships
The Sports Grant Aid funding has been awarded annually for over 30 years. The council has invested in excess of £195,000 into the scheme over the years to assist sports men and women in their efforts to achieve full national, international and Olympic honours. The council, in partnership with Basingstoke Sports Council who administer the scheme, is particularly proud to be able to assist local athletes in this special way.
Applicants must be between the ages of 10-24 years old, live in the borough and be at least county representative standard or equivalent within their sport. Grants are available to provide assistance with travelling and coaching expenses, qualifications, plus equipment and clothing requirements.
All grant aid and sportsperson of the year applicants are also considered for the Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards and for scholarships or support from local facilities including the Sports Centre, Aquadrome, Tadley Pool and the Golf Centre.
Applications should be fully supported by the coach, club, National Governing Body or teacher of the applicant and also include any other additional information that would support the grant application, for example press releases.
As mentioned above, applications for this scheme will not be open this year. Please refer back to this page in 2021 when it is hoped the scheme can re-open.
For detailed criteria and more information, please contact Amy Read at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council by email email@example.com or phoning 01256 845752.

Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme
There is also a county grant scheme for talented athletes which is run by Energise Me. The scheme can include funding, access to leisure facilities, medical support and sports education seminars.
Applications for this scheme are now closed and are due to reopen in September 2020. For details of the scheme, visit the Hampshire Talented Athletes webpage.
