Taxi (Hackney Carriage) and Private Hire

The Licensing Team is responsible for licensing all hackney carriage (taxi) and private hire drivers, vehicles and operators in the borough. All hackney carriages and private hire vehicles are the subject of strict licensing rules, conditions and byelaws. Regular mechanical safety checks are carried out and they are also subject to tests on their appearance and cleanliness. Public safety is paramount and only cars meeting the strict standards and specification are licensed.

Drivers are only licensed when the council is satisfied they are fit and proper. Drivers are subject to checks and tests to ensure the public are transported safely.

Existing licence holders will be sent a renewal reminder four to eight weeks before your licence is due for renewal. Renewal application forms are not available to download online. If you have not received your renewal reminder within this timescale please contact the Licensing Team.
