Working for us

Serving the third largest town in Hampshire, we are an ambitious council committed to putting residents at the heart of everything we do and providing high quality services that make a difference to local people. This includes recycling and waste collections, keeping streets clean and maintaining parks and play areas, housing and homelessness services and much more.

As well as delivering services and supporting our partners, we are leading on a number of exciting large-scale projects to shape the borough for future generations.

We are reimagining our town centre’s vibrant future, breathing new life into our flagship business park, bringing new attractions to our leisure park and delivering new affordable homes at Manydown in partnership with Hampshire County Council and master developer Urban&Civic.

And we are driving forward with action to meet our ambitious targets of becoming a carbon neutral organisation by 2025 and carbon neutral borough by 2030.

Now is a great time to join the team and be part of our evolving success story.

What sets us apart is our people. We have passionate, dedicated staff who care deeply about what we do and the communities we serve. A Corporate Peer Challenge (an external review by councillors and staff from other councils) was carried out by the Local Government Association in November 2022 and noted that:

“It was clear during the Corporate Peer Challenge (CPC) that BDBC is a driven council that has a strong desire for achievement and delivery, with passionate officers, members and partners. The talent and commitment to BDBC by officers in particular was notable, which is something that is recognised by members: "the staff are amazing here”.

The review also highlighted that:

“BDBC has a dedicated and passionate workforce, with staff that are proud to represent the borough and care about its communities. This was exemplified by staff exceeding expectations in responding to COVID-19.”

We are extremely proud that our brilliant staff were so positively recognised by a team of peers who reviewed activities across the organisation.
