News release 10738, published on 12 Mar 2026

Residents and visitors can turn a new page and discover rich history, vibrant performances and unforgettable experiences in Basingstoke and Deane this spring.

To celebrate English Tourism Week from Friday 13 to Sunday 22 March, Love Basingstoke, funded by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, has worked together with venues and attractions to promote everything the borough has to offer through a ‘library of genres’, with each representing a different type of experience.

From adventure and romance to mystery and drama, there is a chapter to visit and enjoy. Visitors can take in the centre stage of a theatre show, explore history, uncover mysteries and savour a romantic meal, all without leaving the borough.

The week-long library also shines a spotlight on the creativity, imagination and heritage that shape’s the borough’s identity and will be celebrated as part of Basingstoke and Deane’s bid to become the UK’s first Town of Culture.

Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture Cllr Kerry Morrow said: “This English Tourism Week, people visiting Basingstoke and Deane can explore a virtual library of local stories and discover the great tales to tell. With something to suit every taste, there is so much to choose from to create a memorable visit.

“Following the theme of thinking of our area as a library, there lots of different types of stories to enjoy: mystery, adventure, romance, drama and history.

“Our borough is such a vibrant and welcoming place to live and visit. The range of different experiences and opportunities is just one reason why we are developing our bid to become the country’s first Town of Culture.”
