Create and Discover programme to offer the chance to enjoy something new
A playful new challenge is set to launch this spring across Basingstoke and Deane, inviting people to try new creative and cultural activities and unlock rewards as they go.
Create and Discover, developed by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in partnership with the borough’s cultural compact group and other local cultural organisations, is a new initiative that will give residents and visitors a fun way to discover new hobbies and explore the borough’s vibrant arts, heritage and creative scene.
Expected to launch later this spring, participants will collect a scratch card featuring a range of suggested activities. Each time they complete one, from enjoying live music and performances at The Anvil, arts and crafts workshops at Atelier Vidrio or Hampshire School of Jewellery to visiting heritage sites like Whitchurch Silk Mill, they can scratch off the matching panel on the card to reveal rewards and incentives to be redeemed at future events and activities.
Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture Cllr Kerry Morrow said: “With so many hidden gems in our borough, our Create and Discover programme is a fantastic and fun way for residents to get inspired and try something new.
“Whether it’s picking up a paintbrush, discovering a hidden story or enjoying a live performance, Create and Discover makes it easy for everyone to get involved. The scratch card also adds an element of surprise and reward, giving residents another reason to experience more creativity and culture on their doorstep.”
The pilot will run until the end of 2026, with cultural venues and organisations offering a wide range of activities for residents to enjoy. Rewards may include exclusive offers, discounts or small giveaways.
More information, including how to collect a Create and Discover scratch card and a full list of activities and organisations taking part, will be announced on the Love Basingstoke website and social media channels shortly.
