Free summer adventures for children to explore this August

News release 10785, published on 24 Jul 2026

Children can discover new skills, unleash their creativity and enjoy outdoor fun this summer as the popular August Adventures programme returns to parks and green spaces across the borough.

The Love Basingstoke event, funded by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, will have a free family-friendly programme featuring a packed schedule of creative activities to keep young ones entertained at five different locations throughout the summer holidays. Young adventurers can also collect stickers at every event to complete a special adventure passport as they explore different locations.

Activities will take place between 11am and 3pm at the following locations:

  • Friday 7 August at The War Memorial Park, Basingstoke
  • Tuesday 11 August at Heathlands Park, Penwood
  • Thursday 13 August at The Green, Tadley
  • Tuesday 18 August at Russell Howard Park, Basingstoke
  • Wednesday 26 August at Brighton Hill Park, Basingstoke

From learning DJ skills and joining in drumming workshops, there is something to spark everyone’s imagination. Families can also discover an upcycled installation of musical curiosities, tackle a mini nine-hole golf course and have a go at disc golf, fencing and skateboarding.

There will also be role play activities, LEGO® and tower building challenges, games, puzzles and craft activities including a live show from the popular Junk Jodie.

The full programme, including more information on the activities taking place at each location, is available on the Love Basingstoke website.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Sports, Leisure and Culture Cllr Kerry Morrow said: “The August Adventures programme is all about getting outdoors, trying something new and making new summer memories with family and friends.

“With a fantastic array of free activities taking place across five different locations across the borough, families can enjoy a different adventure every time and collect stickers along the way to complete their adventure passports. Whether it is learning to DJ, building towers, getting creative with arts and crafts or trying to get a hole in one on the mini golf course, there are so many opportunities to have fun.”

All events are free and designed for families with children aged between three and 13-years-old and run from 11am to 3pm. No booking is required, although some activities run at specific times.
