Household energy payment

On Wednesday 28 October 2026, the government announced a £100 energy payment for eligible households as part of the chancellor's autumn budget.

Payment will be available to households in council tax bands A to D, starting from January 2027.

The council will have a role in making the payments, however, the government has not yet officially provided guidance setting out how the scheme will work or what residents will need to do.

Discretionary support

As part of the budget on Wednesday 28 October 2026, the government also announced £100 million for councils to support households struggling with energy costs that are not eligible for the £100 payment.

We do not yet know how this funding will be allocated or how residents will be able to access it. We will update our website when the government provides us with guidance on how this scheme will work.
