UK Parliament Election

If you are interested in standing as a MP or will be an Agent on behalf of a candidate or party at the Parliamentary election, the best source of information to help you through the process is published by the Electoral Commission. The Commission's Guidance for Candidates and Agents is a full guide to the process you will need to follow.

You and your campaigners should also have regard to the Electoral Commission's Code of Conduct for Campaigners, which outlines what is, and what is not, acceptable behaviour at polling stations and in the community during the lead-up to polling day.

Hampshire County Council Elections

If you are interested in standing for election to Hampshire County Council, further information about this can be found at Guidance for Candidates and Agents at Local Elections. You will also be able to find out about the processes you will need to follow to stand for election.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council Elections

If you are interested in standing for election to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, further information about this can be found Guidance for Candidates and Agents at Local Elections will also provide you with further advice on the processes you will need to follow to stand for election.

If you would like to stand as a Borough Councillor in the 4 May 2023 election, there will be two briefing sessions held for Candidates and Agents.

Parish/Town Council Elections

If you are interested in standing for election for any of the Parish or Town Councils in the Basingstoke and Deane area, information about the work of the Parishes/Town Councils can be obtained from the Clerk. Find out contact details for each of the Parishes or Town Councils.

The National Association of Local Councils are also a good source of guidance and advice, as are the Hampshire Association of Local Councils.

If you would like to stand as a Parish Councillor in the 4 May 2023 election, there is a Parish Candidates and Clerks briefing at 6pm Wednesday 15 February 2023.
