Diversity and inclusion

The council's Inclusion and Diversity Officer works with individuals, groups, and organisations from diverse communities in the borough, providing support and understanding in relation to the challenges different communities face.

Equality Advisor and Support Service

This free helpline is available to advise individuals who may have faced an incident of discrimination. Advisors and support people to find an informal resolution to their complaint of discrimination. The helpline also provides general advice and guidance on human rights issues.

Complaint procedure for racial attack or harassment

Racist crime or harassment is any incident where the victim or any other person believes that the perpetrator had a racial motive. It can take many forms:

  • racist abuse (threat or insults), which can be verbal or written
  • racially abusive behaviour
  • causing damage to property
  • circulating or displaying racist material
  • offensive graffiti
  • any physical violence
